After saying this Siva created another blazing dis¬ cus, as lustrous as the Kala hre, for the destruction of the wicked.

श्लोक 18.2
पुरा सर्वे सुराः शक्रमुखा दैत्यपराजिताः ।त्यक्त्वामरावतीं भीत्यापलायन्त निजां पुरीम्
purā sarve surāḥ śakramukhā daityaparājitāḥ | tyaktvāmarāvatīṃ bhītyāpalāyanta nijāṃ purīm
हिन्दी अर्थ
भावकी परीक्षा करनेका विचार किया
English
He who listens to this with devotion and narrates this with purity enjoys all pleasures here and attains salva¬ tion hereafter. So also is the case with him who reads or teaches this to intelligent men.

दैत्यप्रपीडिता देवा जग्मुस्ते कश्यपान्तिकम् ।बध्वा करान्नतस्कन्धाः प्रणेमुस्तं सुविह्वलम्
daityaprapīḍitā devā jagmuste kaśyapāntikam | badhvā karānnataskandhāḥ praṇemustaṃ suvihvalam

कहती हूँ, इसमें किंचिन्मात्र भी असत्य नहीं है

On hearing the words of the gods Brahma, the grand¬ father of the worlds, mentioned the details of what Tvatr was desirous of doing.

सुनुत्वा तं सुराः सर्वे कृत्वा विज्ञप्तिमादरात् ।सर्वं निवेदयामासुः स्वदुःखं तत्पराजयम्
sunutvā taṃ surāḥ sarve kṛtvā vijñaptimādarāt | sarvaṃ nivedayāmāsuḥ svaduḥkhaṃ tatparājayam

महान् क्रोध उत्पन्न हुआ है

Then the king of gods, accompanied by the gods bent upon achieving his own object, and most efficient in polity spoke to the great sage.

श्लोक 18.5
ततः स कश्यपस्तात तत्पिता शिवसक्तधीः ।तदाकर्ण्यामराकं वै दुःखितोऽभून्न चाधिकम्
tataḥ sa kaśyapastāta tatpitā śivasaktadhīḥ | tadākarṇyāmarākaṃ vai duḥkhito'bhūnna cādhikam

परिताप हो रहा है
English
All of us, the gods and the sages are oppressed by Tvastr. We seek refuge in you, worthy of refuge, a great devotee of Siva and a liberal donor.

तानाश्वास्य मुनिः सोऽथ धैर्यमाधाय शान्तधीः ।काशीं जगाम सुप्रीत्या विश्वेश्वरपुरीं मुने
tānāśvāsya muniḥ so'tha dhairyamādhāya śāntadhīḥ | kāśīṃ jagāma suprītyā viśveśvarapurīṃ mune
हिन्दी अर्थ
मनोरथको पूर्ण करेंगे
English
O brahmin, give us your bones of adamanatine strength. I shall make my thunderbolt with your love and kill the demon.

श्लोक 18.7
गङ्गाम्भसि ततः स्नात्वा कृत्वा तं विधिमादरात् ।विश्वेश्वरं समानर्च साम्बं सर्वेश्वरं प्रभुम्
gaṅgāmbhasi tataḥ snātvā kṛtvā taṃ vidhimādarāt | viśveśvaraṃ samānarca sāmbaṃ sarveśvaraṃ prabhum

शिव ब्रह्मके रूपमें निर्गुण एवं अव्यय कहे जाते हैं

Thus requested, the sage fond of helping others meditated on lord Siva and abandoned his body.

श्लोक 18.8
शिवलिङ्गं सुसंस्थाप्य चकार विपुलं तपः ।शम्भुमुद्दिश्य सुप्रीत्या देवानां हितकाम्यया
śivaliṅgaṃ susaṃsthāpya cakāra vipulaṃ tapaḥ | śambhumuddiśya suprītyā devānāṃ hitakāmyayā

साथ पुनः सम्भाषण न हो सके
English
Immediately he reached Brahma's region with his bondage of actions quashed. There was a shower of flowers and the people were agreeably surprised.

महान्कालो व्यतीयाय तपतस्तस्य वै मुने ।शिवपादाम्बुजासक्तमनसो धैर्यशालिनः
mahānkālo vyatīyāya tapatastasya vai mune | śivapādāmbujāsaktamanaso dhairyaśālinaḥ

नीचेकी ओर मुख की हुई उनसे कहा--

Indra then called the divine cow Surabhi to lick up the marrow etc. He directed Visvakarman to make the weapon with the bones.

अथ प्रादुरभूच्छम्भुर्वरं दातुं तदर्षये ।स्वपदासक्तमनसे दीनबन्धुः सतां गतिः
atha prādurabhūcchambhurvaraṃ dātuṃ tadarṣaye | svapadāsaktamanase dīnabandhuḥ satāṃ gatiḥ

मोक्ष प्रदान करनेवाला है

He gave the discus, as lustruous as ten thousand fierce suns, to Vi§nu, the great Atman, the protector of the gods and the leading sages.

शिवसायुज्य प्राप्त कर लेता है

After securing another SudarSana discus of more brilliance, Vinu the foremost of intelligent gods spoke to the gods.

दृष्ट्वाथ तं महेशानं स प्रणम्य कृताञ्जलिः ।तुष्टाव कश्यपो हृष्टो देवतातः प्रसन्नधीः
dṛṣṭvātha taṃ maheśānaṃ sa praṇamya kṛtāñjaliḥ | tuṣṭāva kaśyapo hṛṣṭo devatātaḥ prasannadhīḥ

इ॒ति श्रीशिव की शतरुद्रसंहितायां सुरेश्वराख्यशिवावतारचरितवर्णन नाम द्वात्रिशो3 ध्याय:

"O ye gods, you listen to my statement eagerly. You must act accordingly and immediately. It will be to your advantage.

श्लोक 18.13
कश्यप उवाच ।देवदेव महेशान शरणागतवत्सल ।सर्वेश्वः परमात्मा त्वं ध्यानगम्योऽद्वयोऽव्ययः
kaśyapa uvāca | devadeva maheśāna śaraṇāgatavatsala | sarveśvaḥ paramātmā tvaṃ dhyānagamyo'dvayo'vyayaḥ

नामक बत्तीसवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ

There are many youthful maidens in the nether regions exquisitely dressed. Any one of you can go and in¬ dulge in sexual dalliance with them.**

बलनिग्रहकर्ता त्वं महेश्वर सतां गतिः ।दीनबन्धुर्दयासिन्धुर्भक्तरक्षणदक्षधीः

Knowing their intention then, lord Siva angrily cursed all the eight** types of the gods.

असमर्थो रमेशोऽपि दुःखदस्ते मुहुर्मुहुः ।अतः सुरा मच्छरणा वेदयन्तोऽसुखं च तत्
asamartho rameśo'pi duḥkhadaste muhurmuhuḥ | ataḥ surā maccharaṇā vedayanto'sukhaṃ ca tat

अत्यन्त निर्दोष तप करने लगीं

''Excepting a quiescent sage and the Danavas born of my parts whoever enters this place shall die in a trice.

श्लोक 18.17
तदर्थं देवदेवेश देवदुःखविनाशक ।तत्पूरितुं तपोनिष्ठां प्रसन्नार्थं तवासदम्
tadarthaṃ devadeveśa devaduḥkhavināśaka | tatpūrituṃ taponiṣṭhāṃ prasannārthaṃ tavāsadam

तपः:स्थानपर सप्तर्षियोंको भेजा

After hearing these terrible words which are con¬ ducive to the increase of the benefit of human beings, the gods thus restrained by Rudra returned to their own abodes.

शरणं ते प्रपन्नोऽस्मि सर्वथाहं महेश्वर ।कामं मे पूरय स्वामिन्देवदुःखं विनाशय
śaraṇaṃ te prapanno'smi sarvathāhaṃ maheśvara | kāmaṃ me pūraya svāmindevaduḥkhaṃ vināśaya

उनके तपकी परीक्षा की, किंतु वे सफल नहीं हुए

Lord Siva, favourably disposed towards his devotees, returned to his mountain after carrying out the task of the gods in the guise of a bull.
अध्याय 7
श्लोक 18.19
पुत्रदुःखैश्च देवेश दुःखितोऽहं विशेषतः ।सुखिनं कुरु मामीश सहायस्त्वं दिवौकसाम्
putraduḥkhaiśca deveśa duḥkhito'haṃ viśeṣataḥ | sukhinaṃ kuru māmīśa sahāyastvaṃ divaukasām

तथा उनकी आज्ञा लेकर स्वर्गलोक चले गये

Thus the bull incarnation of Siva that dispelled Vinu's delusion and caused happiness to the three worlds, has been narrated.

भूत्वा मम सुतो नाथ देवा यक्षाः पराजिताः ।दैत्यैर्महाबलैः शम्भो सुरानन्दप्रदो भव
bhūtvā mama suto nātha devā yakṣāḥ parājitāḥ | daityairmahābalaiḥ śambho surānandaprado bhava

ब्रह्मचारीका स्वरूप धारण किया
English
O intelligent one, listen with very great pleasure to the Pippalada incarnation of Siva that is excellent and that inspires devotion.

श्लोक 18.21
सदैवास्तु महेशान सर्वलेखसहायकः ।यथा दैत्यकृता बाधा न बाधेत सुरान्प्रभो
sadaivāstu maheśāna sarvalekhasahāyakaḥ | yathā daityakṛtā bādhā na bādheta surānprabho
हिन्दी अर्थ
अत्यन्त प्रीतियुक्त होकर गिरिजाके वनमें गये
English
In the fight with Kuva, Viu and other gods were defeated by this sage who had the support of Siva and they were cursed.
अध्याय 7
श्लोक 18.22
नन्दीश्वर उवाच ।इत्युक्तस्य तु सर्वेशस्तथेति प्रोच्य शङ्करः ।पश्यतस्तस्य भगवांस्तत्रैवान्तर्दधे हरः
nandīśvara uvāca | ityuktasya tu sarveśastatheti procya śaṅkaraḥ | paśyatastasya bhagavāṃstatraivāntardadhe haraḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
दृष्टिसे प्रसन्न हो शीघ्रतासे कहा--

The great lord, an expert in different kinds of sports and extremely brilliant was born of her in the name of Pippalada.

कश्यपोऽपि महाहृष्टः स्वस्थानमगमद् द्रुतम् ।देवेभ्यः कथयामास सर्ववृत्तान्तमादरात्
kaśyapo'pi mahāhṛṣṭaḥ svasthānamagamad drutam | devebhyaḥ kathayāmāsa sarvavṛttāntamādarāt

करनेवाला हूँ, इसमें संशय नहीं

On hearing these wonderful words of Nandiivara, the excellent sage Sanatkumara spoke with palms joined in reverence and shoulders drooping down.

ततः स शङ्करः शर्वः सत्यं कर्तुं स्वकं वचः ।सुरभ्यां कश्यपाज्जज्ञे एकादशस्वरूपवान्
tataḥ sa śaṅkaraḥ śarvaḥ satyaṃ kartuṃ svakaṃ vacaḥ | surabhyāṃ kaśyapājjajñe ekādaśasvarūpavān
हिन्दी अर्थ
सन्निकट स्थित हो गये
English
O Nandiivara, O intelligent one, you are blessed in that you have assumed the form of Rudra himself. O dear, you are my excellent preceptor. This wonderful story has been narrated by you.

महोत्सवस्तदासीद् वै सर्वं शिवमयं त्वभूत् ।आसन्हृष्टाः सुराश्चाथ मुनिना कश्यपेन च

और अत्यन्त अशेभनीय कार्य दिखायी पड़ रहा है

O son of Silida, from my father Brahma, the acc¬ ount of the battle with Kuva and the defeat of Viu has already been heard by me. So also the curse has been heard by me.

All the gods had formerly kept their respective weapons in the hermitage of Dadhica. Hence they were immediately defeated.

Then the harassed gods and the sages along with Indra immediately went to Brahma's region and narrated their distress to him.

अद्यापि ते महारुद्राः सर्वे शिवस्वरूपकाः ।देवानां रक्षणार्थाय विराजन्ते सदा दिवि
adyāpi te mahārudrāḥ sarve śivasvarūpakāḥ | devānāṃ rakṣaṇārthāya virājante sadā divi

मनकी उत्सुकतासे इस समय तपमें प्रवृत्त हूँ

This Asura has been created by Tvastr by means of his penance in order to kill you. The name of that Asura is Vrtra. He is of great brilliance and the leader of all Daityas.

ऐशान्यां पुरि ते वासं चक्रिरे भक्तवत्सलाः ।विरमन्ते सदा तत्र नानालीलाविशारदाः
aiśānyāṃ puri te vāsaṃ cakrire bhaktavatsalāḥ | viramante sadā tatra nānālīlāviśāradāḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
वस्तुतः पतिरूपमें प्राप्त करना चाहती हूँ
English
You shall make such efforts as would ensure his death. O intelligent one, listen to the means thereof. For the sake of virtue I shall tell you the same.

तेषामनुचरा रुद्राः कोटिशः परिकीर्तिताः ।सर्वत्र संस्थितास्तत्र त्रिलोकेष्वभिभागशः

You all request for his bones. He will undoubtedly give them to you. Make the thunderbolt staff therewith and kill Vrtra without hesitation.

On hearing the words of Brahma, Indra accompa¬ nied by his preceptor and other gods went immediately to the excellent hermitage of Dadhici.

इदमाख्यानममलं सर्वपापप्रणाशकम् ।धन्यं यशस्यमायुष्यं सर्वकामप्रदायकम्

There Indra saw the sage in the company of Suvarca. Along with the preceptor and other gods he humbly and respectfully bowed to him with palms joined in reverence,

य इदं शृणुयात्तात श्रावयेद्वै समाहितः ।इह सर्वसुखं भुक्त्वा ततो मुक्तिं लभेत सः
ya idaṃ śṛṇuyāttāta śrāvayedvai samāhitaḥ | iha sarvasukhaṃ bhuktvā tato muktiṃ labheta saḥ

आपका वध नहीं कर रही हूँ
English
On realising his intention the sage, the most ex¬ cellent of scholars sent his wife Suvarca to the inner apart¬ ments of the hermitage.

ब्रह्मपुत्रो बभूवातितपस्वी ब्रह्मवित्प्रभुः ।अनसूयापतिर्धीमान्ब्रह्माज्ञाप्रतिपालकः
brahmaputro babhūvātitapasvī brahmavitprabhuḥ | anasūyāpatirdhīmānbrahmājñāpratipālakaḥ

हैं और मैं सर्वदा आपकी भक्त हूँ

O gentle lady, later on, you may do as you please. It is the command of Brahmfi that a pregnant woman should not bum herself.

सुनिर्देशाद् ब्रह्मणो हि सस्त्रीकः पुत्रकाम्यया ।स त्र्यक्षकुलनामानं ययौ च तपसे गिरिम्
sunirdeśād brahmaṇo hi sastrīkaḥ putrakāmyayā | sa tryakṣakulanāmānaṃ yayau ca tapase girim

On seeing him there, incarnated as the sage's son, they bowed to him with palms joined in reverence and made obeisances.

प्राणानायम्य विधिवन्निर्विन्ध्यातटिनीतटे ।तपश्चचार सुमहद् अद्वन्द्वोऽब्दशतं मुनिः

On seeing her son of divine form, the beloved wife of the sage Suvarca realised in her mind that it was the incarnation of Rudra himself. The geat chaste lady became delighted, bowed to him and eulogised him. O great sage, that form of the child was impressed on her heart.

अथाम्बरीषः स नृपः प्रणनाम च तं मुनिम् ।शिवावतारं संज्ञाय स्वपरीक्षार्थमागतम्

O dear sage, listen to me. 1 shall tell you about Vaiiyan&tha, the incarnation of Siva, the supreme soul that yields great bliss.

नियमं सुदृढं दृष्ट्वा सुप्रसन्नोऽभवन्मुनिः ।दुर्वासाः सप्रसन्नात्मा वरं तस्मै प्रदत्तवान्
niyamaṃ sudṛḍhaṃ dṛṣṭvā suprasanno'bhavanmuniḥ | durvāsāḥ saprasannātmā varaṃ tasmai pradattavān

प्रभु शंकरने द्रोणाचार्यसे ' वर माँगो '--ऐसा कहा

She always worshipped Siva and Pihrvad with great joy. She was interested in recounting the names of Siva. She used to wear ashes and Rudrak.

श्रीकृष्णनियमस्यापि परीक्षां स चकार ह ।तां शृणु त्वं मुनिश्रेष्ठ कथयामि कथां च ताम्

O excellent sage, a long time thus elapsed when she was quite happy performing her devotional service to Siva.
