asya visraṃsamānasya śarīrasthasya dehinaḥ | dehādvimucyamānasya kimatra pariśiṣyate | etadvai tat
A question with its own answer encoded. When body and indweller separate, what's left? Not the body — that decays. What remains is what was never in the body to begin with: the Self. 'Etad vai tat.'
Meaning
Of this body-dweller, when the body crumbles and the dweller is released — what remains here? This indeed is That.
Direct literal rendering preserving Sanskrit philosophical terminology.
Vyakhya
Science & Modern Application
शोध संदर्भResearch context · not scriptureComparative Research Noteशोध टिप्पणी
A modern parallel offered for reflection. It is not part of the scripture, and it has not been checked against the original sources it may allude to.
