vidyāṃ cāvidyāṃ ca yastadvedobhayaṃ saha | avidyayā mṛtyuṃ tīrtvā vidyayā'mṛtamaśnute
The synthesis. Ritual, action, ethical living (avidyā in this technical sense) carry one across the river of birth-and-death; Self-knowledge (vidyā) confers immortality. Both are needed: world-engagement and inward realization, not one or the other.
Meaning
He who knows both vidyā and avidyā together crosses death through avidyā and attains immortality through vidyā.
Direct literal rendering preserving Sanskrit philosophical terminology.
Vyakhya
Science & Modern Application
शोध संदर्भResearch context · not scriptureComparative Research Noteशोध टिप्पणी
A modern parallel offered for reflection. It is not part of the scripture, and it has not been checked against the original sources it may allude to.
