अयोध्या के सभी नागरिकों के मन में केवल एक ही उत्कट अभिलाषा थी कि राजा दशरथ अपने जीवनकाल में ही श्रीराम को युवराज पद प्रदान कर दें। यह जन-जन का सामूहिक प्रेम और धर्मनिष्ठ राजा के प्रति प्रजा का अगाध अनुराग है। जहाँ प्रजा और राजा का संबंध स्वार्थ पर नहीं बल्कि परस्पर धर्म और निष्ठा पर आधारित होता है, वहीं समाज में सच्चा आनंद फलता है।
